What is a Beard Trimmer?

A beard trimmer is an electric hand-held gadget used to trim a man’s beard to any length without the use of scissors. It has multiple length settings and is composed of several sets of thin metal blades with teeth. The blades are stacked up on top of each other and oscillate once the trimmer is turned on.

The oscillation causes the teeth beard growth oil  to periodically overlap. A beard trimmer will cut any hair that it comes in contact with. It usually comes with a plastic guard or an attachment that you need to snap onto the blades to protect it from touching your face. The attachment is controlled by a button or switch to adjust the length of distance from the skin.

Some beard trimmers do not have adjustable attachments but instead come with different attachments to modify and maintain facial hair styles. This determines the length of hair to be left on your face. The different lengths are used to maintain different types of facial hair such as the scruffy 5 o’clock shadow look and the full beard.

Beard trimmers are easy to handle and are not hard to operate. It does not need a lot to set up and get started. Cordless models that run on batteries are the easiest to maneuver and store. Some have attachments that will help cut precisely made for mustaches, sideburns and the back of the neck. Some even have a vacuum option that is used to clean up the hair trimmed from your face or head and stores the loose hair on a bag or container within the unit.

Beard trimmers should have stainless steel blades with hypoallergenic foils for those with sensitive skin. Some models can even be water proof and may be used in the shower without hassle. A beard trimmer can also be used for close range shaving. Some units have this option of being a beard trimmer and an electric shaver in one. When using a beard trimmer as a shaver, it is best to shave right after a shower. After showering, the skin extends a bit more of the air shaft thus allowing an even closer shave.

A good beard trimmer should be easy to clean. Some come with special oils or cleaning solutions to keep your trimmer clean and maintain its quality for longer life. Keep the trimmer regularly oiled and brush the hair away from the teeth after every use. Cleaning hair from the unit is usually done with a special brush that comes with the unit or may be bought separately. For a water proof beard trimmer, dry it off completely after using it under water. Keeping it moist or allowing it to stand with moisture in its parts may easily degrade the quality of the unit.

Bearded dragons can contract various diseases just like any other pet; if they do you should take extra care in treating them depending on the type of illness. The most common of the bearded dragon disease is the calcium deficiency leading to metabolic bone disease.

Softening of the bones and skeleton deformities are caused by lack of calcium in their diet and lack of vitamin D. These bone diseases are more noticeable in dragon hatchlings and babies as they do require massive amounts of calcium and vitamin D. A way to prevent this is to supplement their diet with a lot of calcium and plenty of Vitamin D from a full spectrum light.

Early detection of this disease can be found by regular inspection of the beardies. Some of the signs are softening of their jaws, spinal deformities, swollen arms and legs and unable to move freely. As stated this condition can be reversed with the additions to their diet except in severe cases where detection is overlooked they will need a vet for maybe calcium injections. More care is required when feeding since they can not move their jaws properly so hand feeding should help.

Mite attacks are another reptile’s nightmare, these small ‘tick’ like bugs feed off the blood of lizards. These mites hide in the scales of the dragon and they can also spread bacteria causing infections. They are very hard to detect, just small black dots.

There are a lot of mite treatments available in the pet store. Another treatment used by breeders, and safe too, is by immersing the beardies in any vegetable cooking oil, dry them and leave the dragon in a quarantine area for a couple of days. It will be a good idea to sterile the enclosure to get rid of any remaining mite infestation.

Another problem your bearded dragon could go through is gut impaction. This normally happens when they swallow unwanted material with their food which is not digested like small substrate particles. If juveniles are given large crickets they will not be able to digest the skeletons which can block their guts over time. Lack of adequate heat can also affect their digestion. If this happens give them a laxative, olive oil should do the trick.

If the enclosure is not maintained regularly and your dragons do not get enough heat, they can suffer from respiratory infections. Forced breathing will be noticed, the dragons will have their mouth open more times than normal. Mucus will appear around their mouth and nostrils.
